Ar an leathanach seo
- In former years there were many forges in my locality. In this district now there are no country forges as Castleblaney town is convenient to us. In Castleblaney there are five forges: Lynche's, Trainors, McQuaide's, Barker's and McManus'. There ancestors were blacksmiths for may years before them.
The country forges long ago were built beside streams or rivers, so as to have a supply of water for shoeing wheels, and to have water for the trough. They were generally built along the public road for convenience of the passers-by.
The forge is usually a big square building with a large door. Over the door a horse-shoe is nailed to distinguish the forge from any common house. The roof of the forge is boarded inside and is covered with ashfelt on the outside. The great majority of forges have only one fire. There are one large bellows beside the fire(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
