- Long ago the houses were built on a small scale. They were nearly all one storey houses. Nowadays, most of the houses are big.
The old houses had mud walls, and some of them were made of wood. The windows were very small, and the doors were low. The houses consisted of a kitchen, and two rooms. The floor was made of clay. The houses were thatched, some with straw, some with rushes, and some with heather. All these grew in the fields, and were cheaper than the stuff that is for covering the houses nowadays.
All the old houses had a bed in the kitchen to sleep in. It was placed along the wall and it(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
