  1. I have often heard a neighbouring old man relate about the food he ate when a boy. Potatoes buttermilk, Indian meal and homemade Butter were the chief provisions used.
    At supper time when going to bed, meal was boiled with milk and when ready it was drank. This was a very healthy drink and we have no drink now equal to it.
    Potatoes was usually taken at the dinner with butter and milk. This was a very appetisinf mean and was also very nourishing. The children all sat on the floor and a dish of cooked potatoes was put in their centre and porringers of milk, while they are here until satisfied.
    Sometimes oaten-meal cakes were made as the oaten-meal was easily got for oates were grown in abundance and ground at the local mill.
    Tea or flour were rare luxurioes and only at Christmas
