    There are three forges in our district. The smiths are Thady of Coolaney, Joe Davis of Carrowacleiga and there is another forge and no smith in it. It is situated at a crossroads near a pump. Thady Derrigs is situated along the road near a stream and a well and that of Joe Davis is situated along the road. Joe Davis never served his time in any forge nor no one taught him how to shoe a horse or wheel The shoeing of the wheels is done outside. The smiths shoes horses and asses. The implements the smith uses are a pincers, a hammer, a anvail, a sledge, a bellows, a rasp, a fire and a bellows, a trough for water. The roof is made of boards with canvas and tar on it. The bellows is make of leather with
