    There was a mill for grinding them in Drumcliff-in a field opposite to where the present mill is.
    The wheat meal or "whole flour" was used for bread. It was strong and wholesome and people using it were very healthy. From the finer kind of this meal special cakes called "Corwaddles" were made in Martin's bakery in Sligo.
    The land here was well suited to barley.
    In John Chrystal's land in Gortaderry there is a field called "The barley field" to this day, on account of the fine crops of barley that were raised on it.
    The barley meal as used for feeding cattle. Sometimes a little of it would be put in the cake for the tea.
    Poitín was made out of some of the barley and nearly all the people thought it good to drink but not in large quantities.
