Lord Cornwallis, on his way to intercept Humbert at Ballinamuck, passed by Gortletteragh and Farnaught.
Remains of the old road may still be seen on top of the hill in Farnaught.
A, rebel, fleeing from the soldiers, was hidden under a small hay-cock in the northern end of the present townland of Drumhirk, by a man named Duignan. His pursuers turned up some of the other hay cocks in their search.
Some prisoners captured were hanged on top of the hill in Breanross N. The tree, known as the hangman’s tree, was only cut down recently. Stump may still be seen.
People fleeing from the soldiers took refuge in the fort in Drumhirk, part of which has been cut away quite recently.People also hid in old fort in Drumgilra.
