- In my locality wild birds are very plentiful. The following birds are commonly found in my district - Robins, Crows, Blackbirds, Finches, Thrushes, Starlings, Pidgeons, Herons, Grouse, Swans, Sea-gulls, Cormorants, Swallows, Woodcocks, Sedge-warblers. Some birds migrate twice yearly at the end of Autumn and at the end of Spring. The cuckoos and the corncrakes and the swallows and many other birds go to other countries in the end of Autumn to spend the Winter there while birds from the North of Russia and from Iceland come and spend the Winter with us. Those birds are called 'Pochards'. I have noticed that they came three years in succession on the ninth of October but last year they were twenty one days late. People knew when they were that late there would be a good Winter and a good Summer and up to this Summer was very good and we had a great Winter. Every year when they came on the ninth of October the Winter was severe and the Summer was not very good either.
