   A murdered sister's bleeding corse
   Neath the blazing rafters flung

   But that cry of anguish smote him not,
   And he laughed with fiendish glee,
   When the red flame curled and the black smoke furled
   Above his own roof-tree
   For life and gold has the wretch then sold
   The pride of an honoured name?
   Will he shield the Scot from the debt of wrath
   His Kinsmen thirst to claim?

   They had clambered now o'er the mountain's brow
   A moorland wide before:
   Sudden and loud thro' its darksome shroud
   A crashing volley tore.
