- The men used to wear frieze coats, and knee breeches, and low shoes, and long stockings, and tall hats. The old women used to wear plaid shawls, and white caps or bonnets. The young women used to wear shawls also, and the school boys wore petticoats. It was only they very rich that wore frieze coats, and plaid shawls The majority wore brogues, or clogs. The dress in them days were very simple, and the women spun their own stockings, baíníns, and blankets. The frieze were for best wear, and white linen fronts, and linen shirts and linen collars were worn by the men.
