- Long ago a woman and her son lived in Croaghill. Her son's name was Mick Cooney. He did not know right from wrong. When he was twenty years of age he went to earn a living. The first day he went to work for a dairy man. When he had finished his day's work he gave him a pound of cheese. He carried it in his pocket. When he came home his Mother said "Mick you should have carried it on your head like all the dairy men do". "I'll do that the next day", he said.The next day he went to work for a milk man. When his day was over he gave him a jug of milk. He put the jug on his head and as he was walking the jug fell off and spilled it. When he came home his mother said, "you should have carried it in your hand". "I'll do that the next day he used to say.".The next day he went to work for a miser.
