- There are four forges in the parish. The smiths who own them are Willie Costello, Michael Burke, Tommie Sweeney and James Grehan. Tommie Sweeney's fore-fathers were smiths. James Grehan's father was a smith.
Grehan's forge is in the borders of Mayo and Galway. It is on the road side.It is also at the end of the parish of Kileonly.
Costello's forge is in the village of Brook lawn about three miles from the Kilconly chapel.
Burke's forge is on the Ironpool road. It is in the village Ironpool. It's about a mile from the Kilconly chapel.
Sweeney's forge is about three miles from the chapel. It is situated on the Shrule Road.
The roofs are mostly thatch. Sweeney's forge has a thatched roof. Grehan's has a roof made of rushes. Burke's forge has a roof made of zinc and timber. Costello's has a wooden roof.
