When some people are finished washing their feet, they would not leave the water in the house at all. They would throw it out. They say that if they left the water in the house that night, the fairies would be dancing around it all night. Of course, this is all superstition.
There were two shoe-makers in Aughrim in former times, and there is only one now. The reason for this is that when the boot-factories were built, the people used to buy the boots in the shops. They would get them cheaper in the shop than if the boot-maker made them for them. When the boot-maker died, there was no one to take his place, as it was not considered a good job.
