- Long ago, the most of the men wore clogs. The shoe-makers that made clogs usually lived in a wood or near one. The soles of the clogs were made of wood, and there were iron heels on them. They used shapes when cutting out the wooden soles; they also had shapes for the heels. They then sent them to the factories which were very few, and the uppers were put on them. The uppers were made of leather. They would sometimes send back the shoes to the man in the wood, and he would sell them at the shops, in the nearest towns or villages.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
