little hand-mill between every two villages. it was much like a flax-wheel. About two miles outside Tuam there is a hole in the ground and if you went down a few steps you would see a stone and water droping out of it. It is said that the fairies put that hole there so that they could get a drink and from that the people called it the fairy mills- Muileann Lupreacáin . If you put your ear to the ground you would hear the water running underneath the ground. It is said that in the olden times the people brought their wheat there at night and then when they would come for it in the morning it would be ground. It is said that it was the fairies ground it. So one night a poor widow brought her wheat to be ground and it was stolen and from that on the fairies would not grind the wheat.
