- Wrestling was great past time and sport in north Fingal about forty years ago. The people flocked to see the wrestling matches on the green of Balrothery, on the Strand of Balbriggan, and in the Commons of Lusk. The style of wrestling practised in the district was collar and elbow. It required strength skill and agility to be a champion wrestler. Some of the best wrestlers of this district were Neddy Connor, George Hoey, Joe Bently, Phil Sullivan, better known as the skelper, and Neddy Connor's brother Pat. The prize for the winner of each contest was usually a pair of lady's elastic garters.
