  1. In our district the people began to wear boots when they were twelve years old. Peggy mac Feely of Ballymagaraghy never wore shoes unless on Sunday when she was going to Mass, according to Peter Canning of Ballymagaraghy. Children go barefoot to school in summer.
    The water used for washing the feet was thrown out. People say it is not lucky to throw out the water used for washing the feet after sunset, and if the feet were washed after sunset the water used was kept in the house till next morning.
    Boots are repaired locally. There are four shoemakers in the district. None of their families ever worked at shoemaking before. There are more shoemakers now than in former times
