- The names of our farm animals are : horses, cows, calves, goats, pigs, hens, geese, turkeys and ducks.
Cows have got names and some of ours are : Daisy, Bess, Spotty, Polly, Nora and we have a cow called Bovaird because we got her from a man called Bovaird.
When we are bringing in the cows we call "Chay! Chay!"
A byre is the name of a cow house and the cows are standing one after the other. The cows are tied to a stake and there is a chain round their necks.
Home-made tyings are made of rope and tied round the neck.
An old custom when milking cows is that you should sing and they will milk better.This is a line about a girl milking a cow.
By the Dun cow,
Meek and quiet,
She has set her stool so low,
And she sings a gentle measure,
As she makes the white milk flow.
You should make no noise when milking. The house that horses are in(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
