- The names of our farm animals are: horses, cows, sheep, donkeys and pigs. The names of our cows are: "Dolly", "Peggy", "Bessie", and "Betty". When we are driving cows we say "How, How"! The cow-house is called a byre. There is a slate-roof on our byre. The cows are tied by the neck to stakes with chains. The chains are bought in shops. A donkey's shoe is nailed to the byre door for luck.
The names of our horses are "Fanny" and "Dick". When the people are ploughing and doing other jobs with horses they say "off" and "hee"! The place where the horses stay at night is called a stable.
When we are feeding the fowls we say: Birdie, Birdie! for hens. Wheet, Wheet! for ducks. Pee, Pee! for turkeys and Leg, Leg! for geese.
When we are setting eggs for hatching we put fifteen eggs under each hen. It is said that if you put an even number of eggs under a hen the birds will not do very well with you.- Bailitheoir
