- The only story I can find on this head is one that happened some forty or fifty years ago. On the twelfth of July the Orangemen of this district were on their usual parade. One of them named Patton of the Kuather (a townland near Ballyshannon) had by some means or other procured a statue of the Blessed Virgin and put it up for a “bock Shot” inviting his companions to join him. They declined however, and left the stone throwing to himself. This he did, and shattered the statue into pieces. Punishment. Soon after Patton was stricken with a most horrible disease, was secretly kept in an out-house by his friends but people passing, could hear his unearthly screams and shouts. I got this from several of the people living in this district who have no doubt of the truth of it. namely Charles Cassidy Parkhill, Farmer age 50. Samuel Connolly Parkhill Farmer age 69. and others
