- Marriage Customs
Long, long ago people used to be married in their houses. On the night of the Marriage there used to be a feast and a dance . Men that were not invited would dress up in old clothes and blacken their faces so that they would not be known. These men were called “Straw Boys”. The “Straw Boys” enjoyed the wedding as well as long as they got enough to eat and drink, which they usually did. When the bride and bridegroom left the church there was rice or old shoes thrown after them for luck.
