  1. This beautiful lake is situated about three miles due east from Kill.
There is a very interesting story concerning it.
Long ago, it is said, a man was travelling before sunrise, on horseback along the road which runs close to the lake. He saw, as he thought, before him, a beautiful castle with a gate lodge in front of it.
He dismounted from his horse, and went in to see the beautiful building, but he forgot to ring the bell. He was met by a gentleman who said to him.
“If you had rung the bell or blown the horn.
“You’d be the happiest man who was ever born”.
The man looked round for his horse, but what a sight met his eyes? The castle in all its glory had disappeared and so had his horse.
It is believed that the horse lived in the lake. A poor man once resided close by. He was the owner of a little plot of ground. He had no animal with which to plough the ground.
This horse is said to have come to him one day. After that she came at seven o’clock every morning worked with him for the day, but departed at six o’clock every evening. She also presented him with a foal every year.
One day, he kept her working very late. She broke from the harness, neighed three times, ad all her offspring gathered round her. She and they disappeared in the depths of the lake and have never since been seen.
