    Now there lived another chieftain in a beautiful castle at the foot of Nephin mountain. He had one son Donal Dun. Donal was very handsome and was a lover of hunting. One day while he was out hunting along a stream that flows into Lough Conn, near a forest which covered portion of the village now known as Knoc-Maria, he saw a white hare drinking from a well. He chased the hare until mid-day and then he gave up the chase.He called his dogs. Two of them obeyed him, but the other followed on. He thought it strange that his dogs couldn't catch the hare, because he had often caught the fleetest deer in shorter time.
