    carried on at the fair. Any old spleen between two families or two villages or even two parishes would usually be settle at the fair. This is how it would be settled. The two parties would meet at the fair armed with ash-plants. Then they would commence battering at each other until some side would have to flee to safety. The "fair-green" would usually be a rowdy place in the evening.
