    About fifty or sixty years ago there lived a fairly old woman named Peggy Gaughan.

    on the following day there would be a fair in Laherdane. She would go from Ballycastle to Laherdane and purchase something there. She would walk home again on the next day without any shoe. Shortly after her lands were confiscated and she was very vexed. Also when there would be a fair in Belmullet she would not stop till she would arrive at the fair walking all the way. She was a great old woman. No matter how cold it would be it would not keep her from going. She would make a bargain at the fair as good as any man. She would not be afraid to start off in the middle of the night. She was always accustomed to a shawl and used to dress neatly.
