    "cailleach."
    The houses had one door and one window. The door had leather hinges and it was closed with an iron hasp. Before glass was discovered the windows were made of a sheepskin nailed on to a wooden frame and they could be opened and closed as desired. They were opened in the daytime to let in the light and closed at night.
