    box was placed beneath the grinding stone and as the corn was being ground it fell into the box. The grinding stone was called a Quern.
    The people also had another kind of cake made of potatoes which was called boxty. First the raw potatoes were scraped and left to stand ford awhile until they turned black. Then the cake was made with the potatoes and flour with no soda and it was baked on a stone griddle. There is an old saying that if a cross is cut on a cake it will keep away the fairies.
