On one occasion my grandmother was in the bog footing turf when four young people passed on their way to Irishtown. There were two boys and two girls and i(?) about an hour when they returned, they told her that two of the young people had got married, but she was not surprised to see that they all wo were barefooted.
In the generation before my grandmother's time, the priest often went around and married people in their own homes. They entertained him to dinner and he remained with them for the day.
