  1. Taken down from a man born in the year 1874 whose father lived in the same village as the two men mentioned in the following story —
    My father told us that in the days of the Fenians, a man by the name of Pat —
    Who lived in the Village of Cloonacahes was approached to join the ‘Fenian movement.’ and
    take the oath.
    Pat, bluntly refused to do so, and no pesaussion or threat could change Pat’s mind or his opinions once he had his mind made up, and formed his opinion of what was right and wrong.
    Pat’s neighbour, Ulick — had two pigs which he intended to sell at the fair of Castlerea - Ulick — had no sympathy with the Fenians also, and he asked Pat — to accompany him to he fair and give him a ‘hand’ in selling the pigs. Pat — promised to do so, and came to
