  1. Taken down from an old lady whose Cousin
    now very many years dead, was in the Service
    of Daniel OConnell. This Cousin had in her
    possession an arm chair presented to her by
    the OConnell Family - The Chair was known as
    'Daniel OConnell's chair'.
    Story -
    Daniel OConnell frequently told this story
    when in Company, and to amuse his guests.
    It happened that the Lord Chancellor
    got many complaints regarding how
    the Lunatics were treated in Finglas
    Asylum and he decided he would
    make a personal visit to the Asylum
    and see how things were. So he Arranged with the Surgeon-General,
    to be present at the investigation.
    Some Young friend of the Lord Chancellors
    who was full of humour and out for
    fun hearing of the intended visit
    wrote before hand to the Asylum people
    Telling them when a small grey man
    who imagined he was a High Court Judge
    would drive up in his carriage be
