  1. Hedge schools existed in this district about seventy years ago The teachers taught in barns in Leenevesta, Derrymore, and Tawnyslinnaun. Richard Bratcha taught school in Tawnyslinnaun Donick Byrne taught school in a barn in Derrymore and Master Gibbons taught school in Leenevesta. They were strangers They taught school in the farmers barns and lodged a week in each house. They were paid a shilling every three months for teaching the children. The children were taught reading writing and
