  1. The people used to make candles about seventy years ago in Tamhnach Slinneáin and in other townlands also. This is how they used to make them. They would melt the butter or tallow and then they would put it out in a saucepan. They would get rushes, peel them, and dry them and draw each rush through the melted butter or tallow.
