- When the French came to Ireland long ago, there was a priest named Father Manus Sweeney. He lived in Newport and he had the parish of Newport. He used to say mass in Burrishoole Abbey. There was a mass altar there. He used to have his men around him for fear of him being killed. When the French landed in Ireland he gave three cheers for them. Any one that time that gave gave three cheers for the French was put to death. The British Government heard that Father Manus Sweeney gave three cheers for them(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
