  1. It is an old saying to kill something in honour of St. Martin. When the blood is drawn they put some of it in each of the four corners of the house so that Martins blessing will be on the house for the year.
    It is not right to go to bed on St Martins night leaving the spinning wheel prepared for spinning. It is thought that if the fairies get the wheel in working order the will go spinning on it.
