The Making of Chairs

Michael Barey made chairs. He lived in Gurtaderra. The ruins of his house are still to be seen in John Guilfoyles Farm. He made them of ash. The tools he used were a saw, a hammer and pincers a chisel, an augor and a dell. He used the dell for embroidering the chairs. He also made stirabout sticks. He is forty years. He was called a "shooner".

my brother can make cleeves. He cuts osier,hazel or sally rods and leaves them by for a month until they season.Then he sticks strong rods called ribs in a scraw,two rods together ,and about three inches between the ribs.Then he weaves slender rods in and out round the ribs until it would be two to two and a half feet high.Then the ribs are turned from eveeery side so as to
