  1. A great number of marriages in this locality are brought about by match-making. When a man thinks of getting married he asks some person (a man or a woman) to leave out a wife for him. If the matchmaker knows any girl whom he thinks would suit he has a conversation with her and tells her all about this man whether he had a good house or not or a good farm and so on. If the girl consents there is a night appointed on which the intended groom and matchmaker go to the girl's house. It is usual to bring a bottle of whiskey and if they are made welcome the whiskey is drunk while they are
