  1. Long ago in Ireland there was only one fire which had to be always kept lit. There were two people left to mind it in turn. One day the man that was minding it went to sleep. Whilst he was sleeping another man came and put out the fire as he thought.
    When he had gone away a robin came and lucky enough there was one spark left lighted. The robin flapped her wings on the spark till it blazed but it scorched her breast and it is said that that is the way that the robin got her red breast.
