    Come all ye gentle people

    When she and I must part,
    My father in a passion, he said to me one day,
    "Son, dearest son, be said be me,
    Dont let thyself astray,"
    To marry a servant girl, her parents are so mean,
    So stop at home and do not roam,
    And along with me remain,
    Father dearest father dont deprive me of my dear,
    I would not part my own true love,
    For five hundred pounds a year,
    Were I possessed of England's crown,
    Then I'd make my love a queen,
    So with high renown I'd wear the crown,
    For the maid of Sweet Gurteen,
    It was in a few days after a horse he did prepare,
    And sent my darling far away top a place I know not where,
    Her windows daily I have watched.
    In thinking she might be seen,
    In hopes to gain another sight of the maid of Sweet Gurteen.
    Now to end my failing lines,
    I'll take my pen in hands,
    John O'Reilly it is my name,
    And Flora Hill my land.
    Many a pleasant day I've spent,
    Before your face I've seen,
