    on a stool and work her foot, but she could not go from it because if she did the cream would all cruddle.
    There is another churn called "end over end", and it is worked by hand. There is a bar running through the middle of it, you turn the bar and the barrell will turn over and over. It is still used.
    The churning is done once a week in Winter and twice a week in Summer. The churning is done in the dairy and the servant does it or else the woman of the house. It is a custom for every stranger who comes in while the churning is going on to turn the handle because the people of the house make out to say that they would not take the butter then. Sometimes the churning could be done in half an hour.
