name from a fort that is situated at its side.
There is also the Moyne Road which always reminds a person of that fateful day when 17 people were drowned.
The people were going on a trip from Moyne Quay to Tarbert. On the way the boat capsized and all were drowned. The owner of the boat was John Murphy who was also drowned. This occurred about 45 years ago and a song has been composed about the tragic occurrence.
Long ago, planks were put across the river to enable the people to cross in safety.
