  1. The way to make a field stack is to get a stook and put the rows round on it and when the butt is made the person gets up on it to "knee" it and another person hands the sheaves. When he gets up four or five rows from the bottom he begins to lock the sheaves. The way to lock the sheaves is to take a handfull out of one sheaf and stick it in at the band of the other. When he gets near the top he gets a ladder and puts a row round on the top of it. Then he gets long sheaves and ties the bands near the butt of them and puts
