- Some of the walls long-ago were built of sods. Others were built of channel or clay picked out of the ground. Some were built of sods and stones. Some windows were built in so that they could not be moved. In some windows there were four panes and others there were only two. In some houses there was only on pane of glass in the windows. Some people used to have no glass at all only a piece of a board. The good old walls were built of stone and the mortar was mixed with bullocks blood and hair.
