  1. The floors long ago were made of channel. The people would pick up the floor with a pick and any big stones that were in it would be broken so as to make it level. They would get the channel in the bottom of some old sand-pits. Then the channel was taken in and put it on top of the rough stones. Then it was left to harden.
    When the floor became quite hard they collected all the people around to slide on it to make a shine on it.
