   My grandmother lives at the foot of the hill,
   As gay an old lady as ever you saw,
   She offer's me lectures on prudence and care.
   And tells me of all the young men to beware.

   Young men they'll tell lies, they'll flatter m deceive,
   Your lost my dear girls if you do them believe,
   Says I to myself perhaps it's the case,
   But oh! it is hard to die an old maid.
   Die an old maid" die an old maid!
   But oh! it is hard to die an old maid.
   III
   I met with young Colan last night in the wood,
   He talked of the joys and the pleasures of love,
   But my grandmother's lectures they ran in my head,
   I couldn't attend to one word that he said.
   Word that he said" word that he said!
   I couldn't attend to one word that he said.

   Today again Colan his passions renewed,
   He told me his heart was entirely subdued,
   He told me he loved me as dear as his life,
   And if I'd consent he would make me his wife.
   Make me his wife! make me his wife,
