The Care of the Growing Crop.
The crop needs a lot of care when it is growing. When the stalks show above the ground they have to be moulded, and when they grow up a little higher, they are moulded again.
On a fine day when the farmer is sure there will be no rain to wash off the spraying he sprays the potatoes with a mixture of sulphate of copper and washing soda.
Some farmers spray three times to keep off the blight.
