  1. 28. To cure a whitlow. Cut a lemon in two. Put finger in one half for twelve hours. Then change and apply the other piece.
    29. To cure a scald between toes. Apply a fasting spit each morning until scald is cured.
    30. To remove thorn. Put a slice of fat bacon on affected part and bandage. Leave for some hours and the thorn will easily be removed.
    31. To cure a cold. Boil buttermilk and take last thing when going to bed.
    32. To cure a cold on chest. Rub fat in a thick sheet of brown paper. Heat the paper until it is as hot as can be borne. Apply to the patients chest and cover to keep heat from escaping.
