Others say that the Cuckoo is the most important of all birds. Two little birds go to meet her when she is returning to this country and these little birds are called "her servants". They accompany her on all her travels. And then she has another servant - the bird which hatches her egg and feeds the young Cuckoo.
It is said that the Cuckoo and Wood-cock when leaving this country bring with them a piece of wood on which they alight on the ocean and rest during their flight.
The Robin is supposed to have got her red breast when on Good Friday she rubbed herself against the Blood on Our Lord's forehead while trying to remove the Thorns from the Sacred Head.
"The Cuckoo comes in April, sings his song in May.
Whistles his tune in June and in July he flies away"
