for two hours. Boxtie is eaten hot, Sowans: During the famine the people lived to large extent on sowans. First they got a tub and put oatmeal and water in it and left it soaking for a week. Then they strained it with a sieve and put it in a pot on the fire. It was boiled for four hours until it became thick. Then it was put out on dishes for the people.
Egramony Tea: The people made their own tea. The old women used to go out and gather a plant called egramony. They used to cut it and hang it in the kitchen to dry. When they would want to make tea they would put spring water in the kettle and boil it with a stalk of egramony . They would let it boil for a while and then pour it into the tea-pot. Then they would put sugar and milk in it and drink it. This "tea" was not taken very much by the men but was used extensively by the women.
