for a crock of gold. The fairy told him to look behind at the big dog, the man was well aware of fairy tricks and he did not mind what he said. The man said he would kill him if he did not give him the gold. The fairy promised to give the gold. But the man had no spade to dig for it It was under a rag weed.
If the man went home he would not be able to find the particular weed. Between them they made a bargain. The fairy was to give him a piece of red cloth to tie on it.
The man went home and when he came back every weed in the field had a red rag on it.
These stories were told to me by my father.
