- About sixty six or seven years ago, there was a school over the stables of Mr. Humphreys in Burton Hall. The children around the district attended it. It was a mixed school. A teacher by the name of Miss Hogan of Killerig taught there for four years, and then Miss Lawler of Rathvilly taught there. Only English books were used.
