    pass it in turn to the rest of the players. On receiving the taper each player says "Jack's alive and likely to live and if he die a forfeit will give". In whose hand the light goes out, he or she will have to give a forfeit to play. "Hop scotch or Squares" draw eight fairly large squares on the ground. Get a flat stone and then hopping on one foot, drive the stone from square to square. Should the stone rest on a line forming a square you are "out".
    Marbles, hop-scotch, skipping and top-spinning are Spring games. Hunt the fox, leap frog, skating and chain-follow are Winter games. Skittles, tennis and hide and go seek are Summer games.
    Nutting and blackberrying are autumn pastimes.
